Been a while. Traveling without a camera, not thinking of what to put in a post and having not to review the destinations is really lovely. But at the same time, it feels weird going round and not sharing these amazing places with the rest of you. It’s been a good rest, and now we back to blogging.
The last time I was in Magadi was when I started this journey. Some three years ago Linda and I organised a trip to Lake Magadi, not knowing what lay at the other end of the trip. Heck, we had not ever done such a thing between us. What is that they say with youth years and trials? Anyway, we did it and that was when Fun To Magadi happened. Seems like ages ago right now, having gone to become better at that trip planning thing. That Magadi trip was a day-trip, when even the Mulwanda-Khwisero road was better than the one from Kiserian to Lake Magadi. What a time!
And so when going back to Lake Magadi presented itself, and to camp for a few days, I could not say no. To start, the road is much more smoother than what was the 3 years ago. A section is yet to be completed, but they are doing their best. I hope they do before the rains. The Lake is getting drier and drier, as is all other parts of Kenya. And so the animals are getting further from the lake. The days of being in the tent and being able to spot some wild animals are almost long gone. The scorching heat is still doing it’s most.
The Enkare Magadi camp is what I loved most. It had been a while since I camped, years. It’s a lovely camp, some 1KM from the Magadi Member’s Club, set on it’s on next to the lake. There are 15 self-contained tents that can accomodate both single or double occupancy at your request. They really are lovely, semi-luxury camping. In the compound are also cottages for those of you who have no adventure or fun in your bones. Why would leave your house to go pay & sleep in another house when there are tents available? SMH
Below are the Camp rates:
SINGLE ROOM BED ONLY: 3,500 BED & BREAKFAST: 3,900 HALF BOARD: 4,600 FULL BOARD: 5,500
DOUBLE ROOM BED ONLY: 6,000 BED & BREAKFAST: 6,800 HALF BOARD: 8,200 FULL BOARD: 10,000

Lake Magadi is always a different kind of destination if you are running away from the city. Naivasha, Nanyuki, Nakuru et al are all the same, Magadi is different. Add to the rolling hills and amazing views on your way there, you are guaranteed an amazing roadtrip. And Shompole is 2 hours away, driving across the lake bed, incase you feel like doing some more kilometres.
